{"id":277,"date":"2012-10-12T04:44:10","date_gmt":"2012-10-12T04:44:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kamaxi.com\/WP\/?p=277"},"modified":"2013-03-15T06:55:30","modified_gmt":"2013-03-15T06:55:30","slug":"227-illegal-residents-arrested-in-oman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kamaxi.com\/blogs\/227-illegal-residents-arrested-in-oman\/","title":{"rendered":"227 illegal residents arrested in Oman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Muscat:<\/strong> The authorities in Oman continued their crackdown against the illegal expatriate work force in the country by extending the dragnet to the interior region this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c227 foreigners have been arrested during a raid at a number of locations in historic Nizwa town.<\/p>\n<p>90 of those arrested had entered Oman illegally while 137 had violated the country\u2019s residency laws.<\/p>\n<p>The senior police officer added that the raid was carried out with the cooperation of the Attorney General\u2019s office and the Manpower Ministry.<\/p>\n<p>According to the region\u2019s police chief, the raiding party discovered a number of crimes committed by the accused arrested for illegal stay. \u201cA number of arrested illegal residents were involved in theft of electric cables, bootlegging as well as smuggling of unlicensed tobacco products and cigarettes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese illegal residents leave a huge negative impact on our society\u201d, Brigadier General Al Hajry said, stressing the need for every citizen and resident to notify authorities if they come to know about the presence of any illegal resident in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur efforts to root them out will be relentless,\u201d he stressed and pointed out that those found to be harbouring these illegals will also face action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe raids against the illegal residents and infiltrators is an ongoing operation and could be intensified in future,\u201d he hinted.<\/p>\n<p>He urged everyone to report illegal residents to police by calling the emergency number 9999.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, the Royal Oman Police deported 600 Pakistanis. All the 600 were caught for entering Oman illegally.
